Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) was at first established as an engineering college by the Pakistani Government as an engineering college under the authority of Chittagong University. But in 1986, it was declared as an autonomous engineering institution named BIT, Chittagong. But in spite of being an autonomous institution, there were still some problems with the academic activities. So, the students and the teachers of the university raised their voice to make it a totally autonomous engineering institution and their movement was able to bring a positive result on September 1, 2003. Since then, it is called Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET).There are four other public Engineering universities in Bangladesh. Among them CUET is a very popular public university for engineering and technology.
The most attractive thing of the university is the natural beauty around it. It is like a beautiful landscape surrounded by hilly areas and various kind of trees. The university itself is also decorated in a very beautiful and organized way. It is situated covering about 163 acres of land. There are a number of buildings in the university for different purposes; like academic buildings, auditorium, library, administrative building, mosque etc. The library has a huge collection of different types of academic and other books which are very helpful for the study of the students.
Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology provides its students good and modern quality of education. Besides, they provide facilities for others sectors too; like sports, transport, medical care etc. The university has its own transport system which is very helpful for the students who live in the city and remote areas. The University also provides primary medical service to the students. It also contributes in the sport’s sector too so that the students prosper not only in education, but also in other sectors too. There are facilities for cricket, football, hockey, badminton etc. They also organize debate and cultural programs. There is also a school and college in the campus where students get secondary and higher secondary education.
An important side of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology is that it gives more emphasis on the research programs. So, students are very much encouraged to do their research. There is scope of getting scholarship in abroad too.
